Providing support, guidance, and compassionate care during a difficult time.
We all get older and none of us live forever, this includes our dogs. It is important to ensure our dogs have a good quality of life and when the quality of life decreases, euthanasia can be the last act of kindness.
Considering euthanasia can be a very hard decision. The quality of life plays a huge role in this decision. Is your pet eating? Are they going outside to go to the washroom? Are they happy? Are they in pain? There are a lot of factors in making this decision. The veterinarian can be very helpful during this time, you can bring your pet in to be assessed and then, based on how they are doing during the exam and how their QOL is, they can help give their opinion.
We use a drug called pentobarbital. This is a very strong narcotic, which allows dogs to peacefully slip into a deep sleep, while their heart stops.
The cost varies primarily based on the requirements for aftercare (burial, private cremation, group cremation). The hospital team can help ensure all of your questions are answered and help you through the process.
If needed, we have numbers we can give to help with bereavement support.
