Dental Care for Dogs

Healthy teeth are as important to our pets as they are to us. We have developed the habit of brushing our teeth and regularly visiting the dentist and these habits keep our teeth healthy and strong. Our pets need help to keep their oral health and it is up to us to do that. In the wild, dogs and cats have no one to help with their teeth and they suffer from broken and diseased teeth, which shorten their lives and causes horrible pain. We at North Hill Animal Hospital enjoy helping you help your pets keep their smiles white, healthy and smelling fresh.

What types of dental care for dogs do you offer at your clinic?

We offer all pets free dental examinations by our experienced veterinary technicians. This appointment will allow you to learn how best to care for your pet’s mouth. We also offer to restore your pet’s smile, by removing any built up tartar. When teeth are diseased and cannot be restored to health, we extract these to allow pain-free chewing. We are associated with the board-certified veterinary dentists who are available for us to refer your pet to, in case a root canal therapy or another advanced dental treatment is needed.

How often should you brush your dog’s teeth?

Just like with our teeth, plaque deposits daily on our pets’ teeth. If not removed, this plaque will harden into yellow or brown tartar. Daily brushing of our pet’s teeth helps to reduce plaque and tartar keeping their smiles white, their breath fresh and their mouths and teeth healthy.

Why is oral and dental health important?

The food that goes into our pet’s mouths helps to determine how healthy they are. The health of their teeth and gums determines how well they can eat that food. A healthy mouth leads to a healthy body. When our pets are healthy they live longer happier lives.
